The Autozam AZ-1 doesn't look like the sort of car that should scare anyone at a drag strip. It's tiny, a bit odd, and easy to dismiss when it rolls up beside big-power supercars. That's part of the charm. If you're trying to save Forza Horizon 6 Credits while still building something that can win races, this little kei car is a smart place to start. It's cheap to buy, cheap to experiment with, and much quicker than its stock numbers suggest once you start changing the important parts.
Where to get the AZ-1
You can pick up the Autozam AZ-1 from the Autoshow for 38,000 CR, which is pocket change compared with most popular drag cars. There's also a chance to get it from Wheelspins, so don't rush if you're low on credits and don't mind waiting. In standard form, it sits in D Class with a Performance Index of 342. It uses rear-wheel drive and a small turbocharged 657cc inline-three engine making 63 horsepower. On paper, that sounds awful for racing. In practice, it gives you a very light base car that responds well to serious upgrades.
Why it works so well in drag builds
The reason players keep talking about the AZ-1 is simple: weight matters. At around 1,587 pounds, it's far lighter than most cars you'll meet online. Once you add power, that low weight starts doing a lot of work. The mid-engine layout helps too, because the car can put power down cleaner than many people expect. It doesn't need to look wild to be useful. With the right setup, it jumps off the line hard, and that first launch is often where short drag races are won.
Upgrades worth using
A strong drag setup usually starts with the 2.0L R3-T engine swap and an all-wheel-drive conversion. AWD is a big deal here. Without it, the car can waste too much power spinning the tyres instead of moving forward. Add the widebody kit, drag tyre compound, 205 mm rear tyres, Race Turbo with Anti-Lag, Race Brakes, Rally Spring and Dampers, race anti-roll bars, Race Weight Reduction, Race Driveline, and a Drift Differential. That list may sound a little strange, especially the rally suspension and drift diff, but plenty of drag tunes use parts like these to control launch behaviour and keep the car stable under boost.
A sleeper that keeps people guessing
What makes the AZ-1 fun isn't only the speed. It's the reaction. People see the small body and assume it's a joke build, then it leaves the line like it's been fired out of a sling. That's why sleeper projects are still some of the best FH6 Cars to play around with if you enjoy tuning more than simply buying the obvious meta machine. The AZ-1 proves you don't always need the most expensive badge in the lobby. Sometimes the car that looks least threatening is the one everyone remembers after the race.
